Location: White Sands National Monument, NM
Date Taken: March 7, 2004
Comments: In my mind, nothing is quite so iconic of New Mexico as the yucca plants in White Sands. To get the early morning light in White Sands, it is necessary to backpack in the day before and spend the night – the gates are closed from before sunset to after sunrise, and no other camping is permitted inside the monument. This was taken shortly after sunrise as the early morning light brought the landscape to life.
